Over a Decade of Excellence
Welcome to Cat's Pajamas! We are a small in-home Scottish Fold and British Shorthair cattery that was first established in central Wisconsin in 2012. In early 2019 we relocated to sunny Austin, TX. We became one of the first Scottish Fold & British Shorthair catteries in the US to work with the dominant blue-eyed gene (DBE) beginning in 2020.

We are a TICA registered cattery and uphold the TICA voluntary code of ethics. Cat's Pajamas is proud to be one of the ONLY Scottish Fold & British Shorthair breeders in TICA's Outstanding Cattery Program. We also continually pursue ongoing education and certification in animal sciences including nutrition, husbandry, genetics, and behavior.
We hold ourselves to the highest standards when it comes to breeding. Health is our top priority; each of our breeding cats undergoes regular health screenings and extensive DNA testing prior to producing kittens. This ensures that the kittens inherit a strong genetic foundation, giving them the best chance at a healthy and happy life.

Temperament is equally important to us. Our cats are raised with love and attention from an early age, fostering warm and affectionate personalities. We raise our kittens using early neurological stimulation (ENS) to help them become accustomed to handling from just a few days old. Socialization is an integral part of our breeding philosophy, as we want our kittens to grow into confident, outgoing, and friendly companions.

From Childhood Dreams to Lifelong Passion
My name is Kari and I have always loved animals. I was the "can we keep it" kid. Growing up I wanted to be a veterinarian. After high school, I was accepted into a pre-vet med program. Shortly after, a chronic illness diagnosis shattered my original dream. Despite this difficult setback, I remained determined to work with animals.
I had been fascinated with genetics since I was young - always trying to unravel the mysteries behind them. I rented every book I could from our local library about cat and dog breeds and how they were developed. An odd-eyed calico kitten was born on my parent's farm (and inevitably came home to live with me) when I was twenty, and it inspired a new curiosity towards unusual genetic combinations.
In my early twenties when I chose to bring another pet into my life I decided to do so through an ethical breeder. This was my first Scottish Fold, Ivan, who quickly inspired my obsession with the breed. It was through the combination of these experiences that I found my new dream: I wanted to share well-bred Scottish Folds with other people.
My dream became a reality when Cat's Pajamas was established in 2012 in central Wisconsin. In 2019 we moved to Austin, TX. The greatest emphasis for our breeding cats is placed on health and temperament - with unique, beautiful, and rare genetics brought into our program only after thorough research and understanding. I am constantly striving to learn new information about health and genetics so I can do the best by my cats, and I'm currently pursuing my master's degree in Animal Sciences with a focus on Feline & Canine Health & Behavior.
