  • ❤ When will a (specific gender, fur/eye color, ear type) be available?
While we can predict the possible outcomes of a specific mating we can't guarantee when we will have a kitten with specific features available. If you have your heart set on a certain trait(s) please understand there may be a wait time, especially on rare traits (such as blue/odd eyes). Mother nature is tricky and we never know exactly what to expect!
  • ❤ What are dominant blue eyes (DBE) and why do they cost more?
Blue eyes in cats is normally linked to the white spotting gene - meaning most cats with blue eyes are either mostly white or colorpoint (light colored body with dark "points" on the nose, paws, ears, and tail). However, the dominant blue-eyed gene (DBE) is not associated with the coat color, and allows cats that are solid or tabby with little to no white to exhibit blue and odd eyes in striking contrast to their coat color. These cats with DBE stand out amongst more common eye colors, adding to their aesthetic appeal and making them a sought-after trait amongst cat enthusiasts. Breeders who focus on producing kittens with DBE invest time and resources into selective breeding programs. These programs involve carefully choosing parent cats with the desired genetic traits, which can be more complex and expensive. Breeders working with these genetics must also take extra time and care to study and select pedigrees to prevent any potential health issues associated with the genes. It's crucial to know what lines the DBE came from as some can carry genetic risk factors linked to them. We have put in great effort to understand how to work with these genes through continued education and years of following studies with the founding breeders responsible for the DBE we work with. Even in a litter of kittens that have the potential to have blue or odd eyes there's always a chance that none of them will inherit it, and all will have copper/green eyes. This means that the increased desire for kittens with these unique traits is met with a lower quantity of kittens to fulfill that demand. In conclusion, the higher cost of Scottish Fold and British Shorthair kittens with dominant blue or odd eyes is a reflection of their genetic rarity, aesthetic appeal, increased demand, specialized breeding efforts, and the commitment of reputable breeders to producing healthy and exceptional pets. As a potential buyer, it's important to consider these factors when evaluating the pricing of such kittens and to choose breeders who prioritize responsible and ethical practices.
  • ❤ Is there a waiting list for a Cheshire Grin British Shorthair or Scottish Fold kitten?
Cheshire Grin does not do a traditional "waiting list" like most breeders do. Everyone who has been pre-approved has an equal chance at adopting one of our kittens when they become available. We don't require a deposit that obligates you to our cattery, and you may feel free at any point to choose a kitten from another breeder instead of sitting on a waiting list for months and months. Though if you do choose to wait on one of our kittens, we guarantee it'll be worth it! Please note that we do give preference to repeat buyers and new owners who are buying a pair of siblings from the same litter. This priority list gets to reserve a new kitten before they become available to the the rest of our pre-approved list. If you are interested in reserving 2 kittens from the same litter, please send us a message after you have been pre-approved and we'll add you to the priority list.

  • ❤ Can I come visit Cheshire Grin to see the kittens?
Sorry, but no. We are what is called a "closed cattery" and do not allow visitors. We are a closed cattery for multiple reasons. One reason is for our personal safety. Please remember that our kittens are raised underfoot in our home. This isn't a business - it's where we live. Another reason we don't allow visitors for the safety of our kittens. There are various viruses and parasites that can be brought in on hands, clothing, or shoes. Kittens are still building their immune systems and are thus at higher risk of contracting these diseases. We do offer virtual visits through video calls upon request!
